Digital Expressionist Figure Drawing

One thing that really appeals to my particular character is variation. I enjoy the different mindsets required for different types of work. This is why I’ve always remained a generalist as opposed to a specialist. This approach is not the best for the bank account (we live in a niche driven, specialization driven, world after all) but it is great for my mental wellbeing.

I love the challenge of producing highly technical work such as 3D renders and logo design but the thing that got me into art was expressionism. Growing up, I never wanted to faithfully reproduce photographs or comic book characters like most of my peers, I wanted to produce work with an emotional impact.

I did these drawings around a year or so ago to blow off a bit of steam so to speak. I had been working on technical stuff for a few months and just needed to do something as untechnical as possible! I also wanted to practice drawing something very loosely on my shiny new iPad.

If you are reading this and have a project that requires this type of approach either on its own or combined with more technical design aspects please get in touch.
